Standing on Fifth Street, looking down toward Washington St, are lovely views of church steeples and brick buildings. First United Methodist Church is no exception. This building, built and dedicated in 1889, has a rich and full history, including being established by the “Father of Burlington”.
More recently, this building fell to an arsonist's fire in April 2007. After a lengthy rebuilding project, First United Methodist Church reopened its doors in August 2013, This building is in The Heritage Hill Historic District. At night, the building is lit brilliantly, thanks to the Burlington Lightscape Project.
